Virtual Work Is Here to Stay

Updated: Nov 20, 2023

It’s 2019. John, like most of us, goes to work like a normal human being. He gets ready in the morning, drives to his employer’s office, and works an 8-hour shift there.

However, a virus breaks out in the first quarter of 2020 and his workplace gets shut down. John wonders how he will work and make a living now — but his employer has an idea. His boss sets up an online working environment and John, along with his colleagues, starts working from home.

Fast forward to 2022. The vaccines are now out. The world is getting back to “normal”. Workplaces are open, but many people are still working from home — and companies are encouraging their employees to continue to do so.

Why is that? Well, remote work, also known as virtual work, is here to stay in the foreseeable future.

Here’s why.

Here’s why virtual work is here to stay

Virtual work has a wide

set of benefits for employees and employers alike. Here are some of the most prominent of those.

It saves time

First and foremost, virtual work is much quicker to get to.

John used to drive 45 minutes every day to work, and that’s not counting the 45 minutes it took him to get home. Now, while working from home, he is easily saving more than 90 minutes per day.

It’s easier on office resources

John’s employer, the Company XYZ, used to spend a lot of money on running an in-office corporate environment for its employees.

However, with its employees working from home, Company XYZ saves all that money. All it does is provide some important pieces of software for its employees to be able to communicate and collaborate from home — and that’s it.

It makes employees more productive

According to research, remote work enables employees to maintain a better work-life balance. It makes them feel more confident while working from the comfort of their homes.

That’s why John is able to complete his assignments faster. He’s missed fewer deadlines since he started working from home.

It opens up opportunities

Last but not least, virtual work opens up tons of opportunities for John and every other talented individual on the planet. Company XYZ is based in New York and was only able to hire individuals from New York before.

But since the inception of remote work, it’s hiring people from all across the globe. The talented graduate in India is now remotely working from home for Company XYZ, while the company is getting work done much more effectively by harnessing his talents.

The bottom line

Remote work has streamlined the way people get to work — and it’s here to stay for an extended period, at least.

Many global companies are permitting and encouraging their employees to work from home. Workers are feeling more comfortable providing their services remotely.

All in all, the professional world is heading towards a more digital future.
